The secret of Lanzarote's scenic appeal is not just above ground. Below ground level there are attractions of great natural beauty in the form of grottos, caverns and craters such as Cueva de los Verdes (Green Caves) and Jameos del Agua (Water Grotto). Frequently hosting international competitions, Lanzarote is one of the best places in the world for windsurfing and is renowned for its watersports, including snorkeling and scuba diving. Despite the arrival of tourism in Lanzarote, most of the Islanders remain committed to the rural culture and tradition of their predecessors, and ensures that there is plenty of unspoilt countryside and forbidding landscapes to explore and some very interesting people to meet along the way. Lanzarote is one of the few Canary Islands not to have been spoilt by tourism. The local language is Spanish and the currency is the Euro. The population of Lanzarote is around 80,000 and around 1 million visitors per year enjoy this relaxing, magical Island. Lanzarote has an 18-hole golf course in the popular resort of Costa Teguise and boasts many historic and natural wonders, along with incredible scenery throughout the Island.
